Things That Slither

Good morning! I hope your morning is going great, and hopefully you’re not freaked out by the title of this post!

After Jon and I ran some errands, we headed back here to start dinner. However, cooking got put on hold since this was outside…

That would be the tail end of a 3 and 1/2 foot snake outside my apartment.

Oh, just popping in to say, “Hi”.

I did not take these pictures, by the way. Jon did. I was a mess inside. Snakes are the one thing in life that I am deathly afraid of. I’m sure I was overreacting but I had the chills and I was sweating over it! Obviously snakes of that size exist in nature, but I have never seen one in person. I assumed that maybe it was a pet snake that someone purposely let out or accidentally let out. I called animal control but they were already closed. The next step was to call the non-emergency number. They sent over a very nice police officer. By the time he arrived, the snake had slithered across my door (I was freaking out) and planted him/herself high up in a bush. While Jon and the officer were chatting outside, I was inside trying to control Gunner and myself. Gunner was barking his head off because he knew something was going on.

The officer had called the herpetology department at Auburn and someone was headed over. A Ph.D student arrived and just grabbed the snake like it was nothing! He said it was a rat snake and they are naturally around here. I had no clue what kind of snake it was but all I knew is that I was scared. The guy was going to just release him somewhere away from here. I understand these snakes do good things, such as keeping away mice, but I am still afraid of them. All I would have needed was to take Gunner outside when the snake was right in front of my door and have him get bit! I’m happy the snake is unharmed, away from me and hopefully slithering around in the wild.

I could finally cook dinner now!

Dinner

I picked up some pizza dough from Publix. They were out of whole wheat (boo!) but Jon really enjoys pizza so I went for the white dough. I put some cornmeal down on my pan and placed the dough on top. I then drizzled the pizza with olive oil, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning. I sliced some fresh plum tomatoes and scattered them around and added some dollops of ricotta cheese. I topped it all with provolone cheese. It was awesome!

I served up the pizza with a salad in a balsamic vinaigrette (balsamic, Dijon mustard, EVOO, s+p).

Sorry for the dark pictures – it was dark when we ate due to all of the commotion!

The rest of the night was spent relaxing.

Breakfast

I made some home fries, eggs (his and her way). It was all served with avocado and grapes.

It was a yummy way to start the day.

I am going to tackle a circuit workout and then we’re off to find boxes from stores so I can get some packing done. They make it so hard for you. Yesterday, one store told me it was a store policy to charge for boxes now and I should just go around back and see if there are any in the dumpster… I don’t think I want to put my things in something that has been in a dumpster. We’ll try again today!

Question: How do you react to things that slither?

Have a great day!

Creepy! I am with you, snakes, spiders, larger bugs are all enough to make me scream………….:( my cat usually is interested in bugs, but I have to kill them in my apartment…………..
Nice that you found someone to take the snake away!

that pizza looks good and the salad too:)

  2. That breakfast of eggs and avocado looks super good! I just had an egg, avocado and cheese sandwich for dinner the other night. The combo of eggs and avocado is so surprisingly tasty to me–I sware I would never have thought to combine the two years ago.
As for things that slither—I’m usually stunned into a panicked state where I can’t move; then by the time I realize the goose bumps all over I take off running in the opposite direction as fast as I can lol
