As I was waiting for my coffee to brew this morning, I was blog reading and came across Tina‘s question about craving sweet or salty foods.
If you think about it, it’s quite an interesting topic. There are times when I crave something salty (Ladies, I don’t think I need to go any further with this) and that’s easily understandable, but it seems I always need something sweet afterwards. My biochemistry memory may be a little rusty but I think when you ingest sugar, serotonin (the “happy” hormone) is released. It creates that “feel good feeling”. I also think the amino acid tryptophan increases when the body takes sugar in. Tryptophan helps make serotonin so it all makes sense. I have to look all of that up so don’t take me too seriously!
Then there’s that whole “listen to your body” concept. But, does your body truly always need that added sugar? Uh, probably not! I’ll stick to my serotonin theory in which we want that “happy” feeling… until our sugar rush is over an hour later and we feel like crap, right? Haha.
Oh well, I love my sweets and I find that a little treat here and there makes me not go too crazy. When I fist started my blog I used to make sure that almost everything I put in my mouth made it on here. I don’t feel that way anymore. There are tons of pictures I take but they just don’t make it on here for some reason or another. I enjoy showing my main meals on here and snacks/treats from time to time.
There was nothing more I wanted this morning than a breakfast sandwich! Although I wanted my “sweet component” so I added some blackberry jam my mom picked up for me upstate a few weeks ago.
With a cup of coffee, this hit the spot!
I am being a traitor to my gym and going to Jon’s gym as a guest this morning haha. Then I plan on going to a coffee shop to get some work done!
Question: Do you crave sweet or salty most of the time?
See ya later!
