Natural Cold Remedies

Happy Friday!

How was your Valentine’s Day?

You guys want to hear something funny? I got a Valentine’s Day card from Jon in the mail yesterday and I opened it up to see that he got me the same exact card I got him. I mean, what are the chances?!? So funny!

My Valentine’s Day included getting a mani/pedi with my mom and baking chocolate chip cookies… and eating them, of course.

If you follow me on twitter or instagram, you may have seen a picture that indicated I was trying to fight a cold. Bleh. I sound like a man right now, guys. I am the type of person who will do anything to avoid going to the doctor. I don’t know why. That’s just how I roll. So below are some things I do to lessen the symptoms of a cold.

1. Chicken noodle soup. Hands down, the best thing to eat. That hot broth loosens up all of that crap inside!

2. Tea – same effect as soup. Random… I never mention on the blog how much my family and I drink tea. I have at least 2 cups a day (decaf because I drink coffee in the morning). We’re very Irish, like super Irish – my dad’s dad was from Ireland so that’s how we roll!
3. This was the picture on twitter/instagram. Hot water with raw garlic, ginger and lemon. I oddly enjoyed drinking this…

4. Kombucha. Some people believe that kombucha can fight bacterial infections, such as colds. I love the stuff so I’m in :) . Gingerade yesterday after manis/pedis.

5. Juice, baby, juice! I am a juicing advocate for daily living, but I think it’s extremely important for a sick body to be full of varied micronutrients.
6. Emergen-C. This stuff works better for me than Airborne. I don’t know if it really helps, or if it’s just the placebo effect but either way, I’m down if it’s going to make me feel better.
I think that’s about it for all of the things I do for a cold.
Question: What natural remedies have you tried for reducing symptoms of a cold?
Have a great Friday!

Ive never had kambucha, but I do agree there is nothing better than good chicken noodle soup, or any soup really, when you are feeling not so great! Mani/pedi’s are so fun. I spent the day with my mom too, shopping, and getting lunch and cupcakes!

  3. I needed this so bad today! I’m horribly sick. You just may have saved me, haha. Thank you :)

  4. I want to try that Kombucha- I’ve heard good things about it. I also like to eat lots of spicey foods when I’m stuffed up because it helps clear out my sinuses! Have a great weekend!

  5. That’s too funny that you guys got each other the same card! You must know each other really well. My cold remedies are sleep, liquids (soup and tea also!) and lots of vitamins/airborne. Usually does the trick, hope you feel better!

  6. Kaitlin says:

Like you, I load up on tea, kombucha, lots of Emergen-C, and hopefully some sleep :) But as a college student, that’s not always possible. Feel better!

  7. Love your polish color!! So pretty!

  8. Hot tea and Coldeeze is what I use to stave off a cold! Feel better, colds suck.

  9. Carrie says:

Soup and tea are my go-to options–specifically chicken noodle soup (obviously) and green tea. Hope you’re resting up and starting to feel better!

  10. Kombucha! I always grab one when I get a cold. Great tips!

  11. That is so funny that y’all got each other the same card! So cute :) I hope you feel better-chick flicks and the couch, that’s my suggestion!!

  12. that is so funny that you and jon got the same cards for eachother ! manis and pedis with moms are the best ! anytime i feel a sore throat or stuffy nose coming on i always go get some kombucha and have that for a few days and always clears me right up!

  13. I hope you feel better soon! I’ve been fighting a cold for the last two weeks which is no fun at all! I should try some of your remedies!
